Oh damn... Yeah, this is overdue. A recap and progress report of my doll goals for 2024.
1. Buy less dolls. Hrm... It's May. And I've bought 7 more dolls this year. That's more than 1 a month. It's way less than last year, but still, I was trying to wean myself off the doll buying, and that's not quite working out yet. I suppose buying 2 dolls in May of this year, compared to buying like 8 in May last year, so I suppose that's an improvement??? On the bright side, I don't think those Rainbow Brite dolls are gonna come out after all. They could be canceled already. RB came out in March, and it's May, and there's no sign of the color kids.
2. Arts and Crafts. This got a lot harder when my husband took over my crafting table with army men for 3 months. But no stress, I'm back in the saddle. I finished Bella's pajamas yesterday, and I'll wrap up Jade's pajamas as soon as the new fabric comes in. Next month's project is sailor scout uniforms for the anime convention. Then I'll probably make Dolly House Con tees.
3. Dolly House Con 2024. This has not been canceled, but I've postponed work on it for the time being. It should happen in July or August still. There's bigger things going on IRL, so I can't really focus on it right now.
4. Socialize carefully. I'm gonna change this one to just Socialize more! Nobody, and I mean nobody, is giving a damn about the Mattel verses MGA argument. We're all equally disappointed with both companies. Nobody is white-knighting for these corporate entities right now, which is great! They have lawyers, they don't need us. Grown men fighting over Twitter is not our problem. Besides, few people give a damn about MGA after they gutted Rainbow High. Also, Mattel is burning out their Monster High fans rapidly.
Final Thoughts: I have over 100 dolls in my collection now. I've been collecting for over 20 years, so this seems reasonable. This includes some dolls from my childhood. I can't wait to display them all when we move into our new house next year. I should be proud, not ashamed, because doll collecting is a time honored tradition that transcends the ages. My dolls bring me great joy, and I don't want to part with a single one.
