Update: My Doll Collecting Future

Recently, I had a conversation about my doll collecting future with my husband.  Since my Monster High roster feels complete, and I'm actively making an effort not to buy Rainbow High anymore, I've been eyeing other doll and toy lines to collect.

Since I'm a big fan of black and white monster movies, I considered toys themed around Universal's Monster universe, Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Mummy, the Wolf-Man, etc.  NECA makes action figures of many of the headlining characters.  However, the hair and clothes are molded on, so I'm not sure how much play value I'd get out of them.  They don't have hair to brush, or clothes to change.  Another action figure company named Mego, they make action figures with fabric clothes.  I gave them more consideration, but they didn't seem like a good fit in the end either.  Most of the monsters are male, and I don't have a good time making men's clothes.  The only female monster they had in the line was the Bride of Frankenstein.  No Daughter of Dracula.  No She-Wolf of London, etc.  Most female monsters are unknown now.  It sucks.  I might still get some monster plushies, I dunno.

Since the monster route was kind of a bust, I returned my attention to fashion doll lines.  I have two on my radar right now, BFF and Failfix.  BFF, I have two dolls from already.  FailFix, I used to have 4, but parted with them during my last big doll purge.  I miss them.  Even though they were discontinued 2 years ago, they're still pretty affordable.  Both doll lines are small, articulated, and come with stands.  My husband agreed with me, I'd definitely get play value out of these lines.  They have good quality brushable hair, and I can make clothes for them.  They're also really cute, which my husband associates cute aesthetic with me.

After the long chat with my husband, I felt ready to move forward.  I ordered two FailFix dolls off Ebay, Kawaii Qtee, whom I had before, and Loves Glam, one I didn't have before.  FailFix dolls have a slim body type and a curvy body type, and I wanted one of each to start with so I could draft patterns.  I found all links of the dolls, and drafted a check list.  7 dolls came out, and I intend to get 6.  I'm passing on 2Dreami, because I like to have an even number of dolls and I enjoyed her the least.  I'm also going to get some of the character's pets, sold separately.  Not all of them got pets, but I'll get what I can.  I also wrote down some shipping ideas and fanfic ideas.  FailFix does not have any associated media, so I can kinda make up whatever I want.  I decided to make them college student age.  There's already plenty of high school dolls.

I'm also going to buy BFF dolls, but since they're still in production, I'm not in as much of a hurry to get them.  Also, cute as their faces are, their bodies are a bit weird, being bow-legged and all.  I don't want the whole line, just a couple from each wave.

As for the dolls I already have, their future is a mixed bag.  Now that I have new glasses, it's a lot easier to sew again.  I've already made a whole outfit for Clawdeen and shorts for Ghoulia, look forward to a photoshoot with those two when I'm done making the finishing touches.  I'm considering another purge.  No one's forcing me to or anything, I just feel I bought a lot of dolls the second half of next year that I didn't connect with.  Then again, I really regretted the last purge, so maybe I shouldn't do anything like that when I don't have to.  But I kinda regret buying the Bratz dolls and the Equestria Girls, and half the Rainbow High I accumulated more recently...
