My dolly collecting life has been pretty exciting this year. In January, I was collecting old Equestria Girls dolls. By February, I had a few complete sets of the Mane 6, and a few Sunset Shimmer. In March, I went back to Rainbow High YET AGAIN! This time, instead on working on new characters, I started focusing on filling in older characters I didn't have dolls of yet, like Skyler Bradshaw. In April, I tried out Crybabies BFF dolls. Then, my spring and summer were jam packed with dolls. In May, I got a bunch of Monster High g3 dolls, starting with a Twyla I got for my birthday. June, I got a bunch more Monster High dolls. Now I think I have 8. July, I went absolutely nuts and rebought every FailFix doll I missed and wanted.
Fall and winter were pretty rough. My husband lost his job and was unemployed for a few months, so I had to really put the brakes on my doll collecting for a while. It was a very stressful time for both of us, but I really wanted to do my part at least by being financially responsible. August and September, I didn't get any dolls. At the beginning of October, my husband got me a Snow White doll to help me get through the tough times. I also picked up some small dolls from the dollar store, and reviewed those. But what I really wanted, was more original Rainbow High, so after my husband got a new job, I started ordering the last few characters I wanted for my collection. In October, I got Poppy Rowan. In November, I got Daria Roselyn.
Around the end of November, beginning of December, a huge amount of leaks for next year's Rainbow High dolls came out, and they were devastating to see. Just when I'd finally accepted my love of Rainbow High, and accepted that this was my go to line and I couldn't deny it anymore, the leaks for next years dolls came out. No wrist articulation. Less leg articulation. Cheaper fabric. SLIME. They are bringing back the slime gimmick from the failed Poopsie Slime Surprise line. It hurt. It hurt a lot. It felt like they were killing my favorite doll line in their prime! It hurt a lot to see what was happening to my favorite doll line. They even sent some out to doll youtubers as PR packages. It all happened so fast, it was a real shock.
I was really grateful I got my Poppy Rowan in October, because she's not in next year's line, so she's selling out everywhere. People are putting her up on Ebay for hundreds of dollars, it's insane. I talked to my husband about the coming changes, and we agreed I should buy the last two characters I want before they become sparse and expensive too. I chose the Runway Fashion Amaya Raine, and Gabriella Icely. They arrived today. They're my last new Rainbow High dolls. I'm not getting any more...
It's okay though, I have around 20, which is more than any other line I've collected, I think... I have 16 different characters now. I used to only get 6 from any given line. But these dolls mean so much to me. Even now, part of my head is like, "Maybe slime won't be so bad." But MGA has spoken, loud and clear, they don't want to make Rainbow High dolls for me anymore. I'm not the target audience, and these dolls are not for me. They want be to buy expensive collectors Bratz instead. Just like Mattel wants me to buy expensive Skullector's Monster High dolls. I'm not supposed to play with playline dolls. I'm a grown up... I shouldn't have them...
So, like a grown up, I'm expecting at least 4 dolls for Christmas, 4 from my ever patient husband. We didn't over spend, they were on a good discount on Black Friday. But yeah, my doll collecting prolly needs to slow down now. Rainbow High will never be the same.
Next year, I'm going to slow it down. This year was mad crazy because we had a lot of extra income, but it won't be the same next year. With Rainbow High out of the picture, I have a lot less to look forward to. I hope to get a few more Disney Princesses. I'm kinda on board the Disney thing. Disney will never shame me for playing with toys.
