I got a handful of used original Equestria Girls dolls from Ebay. They are drastically different from the reboot dolls I have the complete set of.
Applejack looks pretty similar in both dolls. The first difference is the size, they're almost 2 inches apart. The originals look similar to Bratz dolls, with large heads and small bodies, but without the enormous feet. The reboot, even with a sizeable head, is more like a Barbie in scale and shape.
Even though the originals seemed to cut corners with less articulation and rubber tops, they do have more detail and extra bits than the reboots. Fluttershy has wings, for starters, none of the reboots came with wings. Also, on all the originals, there are details painted on the dolls shoes. Another detail, the originals have the girls' cutie mark painted on their cheek, and their eye sparkle is shaped like their cutie mark.
Rainbow Dash has more colors in her hair in her original than her reboot. The original has 5 colors total, and the reboot only has three. Also, on all of them, their skin and hair colors are darker and more saturated.
Overall, I really like the originals more than I expected to. It looks like I'll have to keep an eye out for the rest. Finding them for sale complete takes time and patience. I actually had to buy Rainbow Dash's wings separately. But yes, good dolls.
