Picking my Next Doll

My husband gets bothered by big ball-jointed dolls with changeable eyes.  They creep him out and make him uncomfortable, especially if he thinks they're looking at him.  When Comrade came, he got fed up with it.  When I told him I was selling Comrade, he was really relieved.  And then he told me about how the dolls were starting to really stress him out.  He didn't want me to give up the hobby, because it made me happy, but two 1/3 scale dolls was just too much.

But if I stopped at Amiga, I would have 5, and my dolls have to be in sets of 2.  I wanted Amiga to have a little more company.  So I got Mika, the 11cm doll. Rooted hair, painted on face.  My husband actually kinda liked it!  She's small, easy to ignore, and can never "look at him."  To my delight, he said I could slowly expand my doll collection a bit more.

So what do I do?  I start looking at 1/4 scale expensive dolls!  $300+ resin dolls with realistic eyes were NOT what he had in mind.  But I was thinking, "Maybe I could have a more grown-up collection!"  So what did I want?  Not 1, but 2 Luts Model Delf Blanchettes.

With all the bells and whistles, we're talking $1000.  And even in 1/4 scale, they're just the doll that Hubby doesn't want to see.  I had to reign it in.

After some searching, I found my next idea, Magical Angel Anne.  From a smaller company.  Their bodies aren't nearly as pretty, but they're very poseable and reasonably priced.  I saw them as a compromise, but some facts remain.  I don't like the appearance of the body.  They're too big for my husband to be comfortable with, and they require eyes that creep him out.  So Anne is out.

Another thought: if Hubby is okay with my 11cm Obitsu, why not get a bunch of tinies?  Chibis everywhere!  Mika already has a bunch of clothes she can share.  Sounds perfect, right?

No, the fact was, I want more grown-up dolls.  So I had to face the difficult task of finding mature dolls that were small enough to not bother Hubby.  This was incredibly hard.  Amazingly enough, I found my answers on Etsy.

She doesn't have a name, but she's mature, classy, natural looking, and small.  14cm small.  Perfect.  Even better, she doesn't have eyes that come out.  They're just painted on.  She's got loads of options; any natural hair color, any eye color, they just added dark skin.  Also comes with 2 pairs of hands (in case you break a finger) and 3 different pose feet.  All this in a lovely box for well under $200.  She's the perfect next doll for my collection.  Now to save up my pennies...
